At A Glance

MapleStory Classic World classes (also searched as jobs) start as Beginner, then pick one of four launch lines: Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief. This page is the jobs hub. The only deep job article in this wiki is Assassin — Warrior, Magician, Bowman, and Thief stay here as text until they earn their own URLs.

Pirate and 3rd job are not playable launch lines on this wiki. Test databases and later-job recaps exist; treat them as TBA. Community damage formulas below are Unverified. Magician first-job level 8 vs 10 is Unverified. Rankings belong on the tier list.

What are MapleStory Classic World classes and jobs?

Players search MapleStory Classic World classes and MapleStory Classic World jobs for the same roster. Every character is a Beginner on Maple Island. After you sail to Victoria Island, you talk to a job instructor in a town and become Warrior, Magician, Bowman, or Thief. That first job is the only launch fork that matters. Second job splits each line; third job is discussed in tests and recaps and is not treated as live content on this page.

This is Nexon’s Classic World beside modern MapleStory, not MapleStory Worlds on mobile, not a private old-school server, and not beanfun’s regional Classic. Characters do not copy from modern worlds. Founder’s Access opened October 6, 2026; Grand Launch is October 21, 2026, 11:00 AM PDT. Job identity does not change those dates.

Where you actually job

Warrior instructor: Perion. Magician: Ellinia. Bowman: Henesys. Thief: Kerning City. Lith Harbor is the boat dock, not a job town. Sleepywood is later hunting, not a 1st-job NPC. Confirm the live nameplate — this wiki does not invent instructor dialogue.

Stay Beginner if you want a challenge run. This hub assumes you job. First-week maps sit on the leveling guide. Island flow sits on the beginner guide.

What is the best job in MapleStory Classic World?

There is no official best job. Recaps grade 2nd jobs by meso budget, party buffs, and whether you like melee or range. Assassin is often called a funded range class because stars and claws eat mesos. Bandit is the cheaper thief. Bowman sits mid-cost if Soul Arrow is live. Warrior eats potions because monsters touch you. Magician eats mana. Cleric is a party job, not a solo DPM king.

If a video ranks Night Lord or Bowmaster at the top, that list is using later jobs. Those names are TBA here. Use tier list for community ranks with the same Unverified stamp, then pick the line you will actually train.

Budget before identity

Assassin min-max is a funded question. If you will not buy or farm stars, do not pick the claw line because a tier graphic said Night Lord is S. Bandit, Spearman, and Bowman exist so you can play Classic World without a star tab. Rankings shift when 3rd job actually ships.

What does Warrior play like?

Warrior is melee. Recaps: high HP and defense, lower speed and jump than the other three lines, jump-attacks allowed. Primary stat STR. Secondary DEX for accuracy and weapon requirements. Weapons: swords, axes, blunt weapons, spears, polearms, shields. First-job attacks in recaps are Power Strike (single) and Slash Blast (up to four). You stand close. You get hit. Potion cost is the class tax.

Second job does not replace those two attacks in the recaps we used. All three branches pick up a weapon booster and Final Attack (a follow-up when something is in front of you). Rush dashes and can drag mobs. Then you split.

Do not plan 3rd job yet

Recaps continue Fighter → Crusader (combo orbs), Page → White Knight (elemental charges), Spearman → Dragon Knight (HP drain kits, Hyper Body). Those kits are TBA on this wiki. Train Power Strike / Slash Blast and the 2nd-job buffs you actually see. DEX-less Warrior is a different debate from Assassin DEX-less — still Unverified if someone tells you to dump every point in STR on day one.

What does Magician play like?

Magician is a caster. Recaps: spells hit even in melee range, but you cannot jump-cast. Primary INT. Secondary LUK for gear. Wands, staves, shields. First-job choice in recaps is Energy Bolt versus Magic Claw — both single-target, similar damage, different hit counts. Magic Guard spends MP to spare HP, which is why a Magician with a tiny HP bar still trains.

Job level 8 vs 10 is Unverified. Classic Maple Magician often jobbed at 8; some Classic World notes use 10 for every line. Do not walk to Ellinia at 8 and assume the NPC will accept you. Check the live requirement. If you job at 8, you have two extra levels of Magician skills before Victoria grinding matches the other jobs. If you job at 10, you spent those levels as Beginner. This wiki will not pick a number until a client screenshot lands.

Mana is the meso sink

Bowman recaps mention Soul Arrow so arrows stop vanishing. Magician has no equivalent “free MP” in 1st job. Fire/Poison AoE is called mana-hungry in 2nd-job recaps — three-mob packs, not a full screen, until later jobs. Cleric got nerfed in Founder’s-period recaps; treat heal numbers as Unverified. 3rd-job Mage / Priest / Bishop names stay TBA.

What does Bowman play like?

Bowman is physical range from Henesys. Primary DEX. Secondary STR for bows and armor. Recaps: you shoot with a bow or crossbow; you cannot jump-attack; 2nd job has no mobility skill. Safe-spotting on platforms is the play. Early maps that force you into melee feel worse than they do on Assassin.

First-job recaps put Arrow Blow / Double Shot style attacks plus Power Knockback. Soul Arrow (2nd job in recaps) lets you fire without consuming arrows — the convenience tax Bowman pays you back. Hunter uses bows and gets Arrow Bomb for packs (MP-heavy early). Crossbowman uses crossbows and Iron Arrow for long horizontal platforms. Community recaps often call Crossbowman easier to level on Victoria’s long floors.

Cost sits in the middle

Arrows are cheaper than Assassin stars if Soul Arrow is live. If it is not, you are buying ammo like a thief. Gear is not free, but recaps do not treat Bowman as the star-funded class. Ranger / Sniper / Bowmaster / Marksman are 3rd/4th names — TBA. Sharp Eyes is a later-job party reason people pick Bowman; do not expect it at 1st job.

What does Thief play like?

Thief jobs in Kerning City. Primary LUK. Secondary DEX. Recaps: jump-attacks work. Avoidability is high; HP is not. Claws throw stars. Daggers stab. First-job skills in recaps: Lucky Seven (two stars, single target, needs ammo), Double Stab (dagger), Dark Sight (invis, slower move, no touch damage), Disorder (melee debuff even if you hold a claw). If a monster is in your face with a claw, recaps say you punch unless you jump-throw — Classic World recaps claim mid-air throws no longer punch.

Both 2nd jobs get a booster and Haste (speed and jump, party-wide in recaps). Max Haste in recaps hits the speed/jump caps (130 / 110 quoted — Unverified until the client shows it). Assassin keeps Lucky Seven, adds Critical Throw and Drain. Bandit is melee dagger, Savage Blow later. Deep AP, star math, and DEX-less live on Assassin.

2nd jobWeaponWhy people pick itTax

BanditDagger + shield in recapsCheaper thief, Savage Blow identityMelee hits; skill comes online later

Stars are not a flavor text

Lucky Seven does nothing if the star stack is empty. That is the whole Assassin economy. Bandit skips that tab and pays in potions instead. If you want the min-max search (LUK vs DEX, DEX-less, star recharge), open the Assassin page. Hermit / Night Lord / Flash Jump / Shadow Partner are 3rd-job recap names — TBA, not a build you execute at launch on this wiki.

Are Pirate and 3rd job playable?

No — not as launch jobs on this wiki. Pirate (Brawler, Gunslinger, and the later pirate tree) appears in test and client-snapshot lists. Launch-facing sources keep the four beginner lines only. We do not publish a Pirate AP guide, a Nautilus walk, or a “best pirate build.” If Nexon lists Pirate live, this hub will grow a row. Until then the answer to “where is Pirate” is TBA, not playable.

3rd job is the same rule. Recaps already talk Crusader, White Knight, Dragon Knight, F/P Mage, I/L Mage, Priest, Ranger, Sniper, Hermit, Chief Bandit. Closed tests showed 3rd-job kits. Launch FAQ-style sources usually say 3rd job is not in. This page will not tell you to save SP for Hermit Flash Jump. 4th job is even further out.

Why the databases disagree

MapleClassic-style wikis split “launch” vs “seen in test.” Client snapshots count extra skills and extra jobs. If a tool site lists 25 jobs, it is counting test rows. Our table has four live lines plus two TBA rows. That is intentional, not an incomplete scrape.

Which damage formulas should I trust?

Community tools quote primary-stat weights such as Warrior STR × 4 + DEX, Magician INT × 4 + LUK, Bowman DEX × 3.4 + STR, Thief LUK × 3.6 + DEX + STR, then a max-hit line that multiplies that pile by weapon attack and skill percent. All of that is Unverified (community). Test patches changed how main stat and weapon attack scale. Recaps that compared DEX-less gear said the old “dump secondary, stack primary” trick no longer pays the way 2005 memory says it does.

Do not paste a private-server calculator into your AP window. Weapon attack on the claw plus stars (or the bow plus arrows) still dominates in community Assassin math — which is why stars matter more than a 4-point DEX dump you saw on a forum. Quote client damage ranges when you have a screenshot. Until then, formulas stay labeled.
